How to Buy DMM Points from Outside Japan with a DMM Prepaid Card
Apartment 507Share
Want to top up a DMM account but live outside Japan, or have just arrived in Japan without a local payment card? This guide covers how to buy DMM points from outside Japan with a DMM prepaid point card code sent by email, how to set up a free DMM account, and how to redeem your code as DMM points or game chips. The short version: you can order a code from anywhere, but DMM says only a handful of its services can be used when you access them from outside Japan, so read the limits below before you order. Every DMM step, rule and limit here was checked against DMM's official help center in October 2026.
What are DMM points and game chips?
DMM points are DMM's prepaid payment method for the DMM.com and DMM GAMES sites. DMM lists many services that accept them, including items in free-to-play DMM GAMES titles, monthly games, DMM TV purchases and DMM Books.
Game chips are a separate prepaid balance that only works in certain DMM GAMES titles. DMM warns that game chips are not the same as DMM points, and that paid items in those titles cannot be bought with DMM points. DMM keeps a list of the games that use game chips, so check it before you charge.
Which one you get depends on the type of DMM point card code:
- 17-digit DMM prepaid card code: you choose whether to charge it as DMM points or as game chips.
- 16-digit DMM point code: adds DMM points only.
Things to know before you start
- Where you are matters. DMM says some of its services cannot be used when you access them from outside Japan. Its help page on services for customers outside Japan names just three: DMM Online Salon, English lessons and the teamLab Planets TOKYO ticket store. DMM TV, for example, cannot be used from abroad, and DMM says the DMM GAMES Charge Center is a site for Japan that cannot be used from overseas.
- What DMM points can do abroad. Of those three services, DMM lists English lessons and Online Salon (when you join in a web browser, not the iOS app) as accepting DMM points. teamLab Planets tickets cannot be paid with DMM points. DMM also notes that Online Salon is not available in some regions.
- In Japan but still blocked? If you are in Japan and see a message saying the service is not available in your region, DMM's help center has a checklist of connection settings to review, such as connecting through a Japanese internet provider and using a supported browser.
- You need a DMM account. Using a DMM prepaid card requires free DMM.com membership and agreeing to DMM's terms.
- Expiry dates. A DMM prepaid card can be charged for one year from the date of purchase; after that it can no longer be charged. Once charged, DMM points are valid for one year and game chips for six months. A 16-digit point code also has a validity period before you use it: DMM says codes bought at Japanese convenience stores last at least 90 days from purchase and that codes from other sources vary, so redeem yours soon after it arrives. Points charged from a point code are valid for one year from the charge date. DMM's DMM point expiry page has the full rules.
- Some services need ID checks. DMM says some of its services require you to submit official documents to confirm your age or identity. Depending on the game or service you want to use, you may be asked for a photo of ID or a piece of mail, so check its requirements before you buy.
- Monthly limit. DMM sets a charge limit of 300,000 yen per month for prepaid cards.
- No refunds or reissues. DMM does not return, refund or reissue prepaid cards. See our refund policy for orders placed with us.
Step 1: Create a free DMM account
DMM's sign-up pages are in Japanese, so the on-screen labels are shown below with an English translation. DMM's own walkthrough is on its email registration help page.
- Go to DMM's member registration page and read the membership terms.
- Choose how to sign up. DMM accepts an email address, or a Google, LINE, X, Facebook, Amazon or Apple ID. To use email, select メールアドレス (Email address).

- Enter the 6-digit verification code that DMM sends to your inbox. If the email contains a link instead, open it. Your free membership is now active.

Step 2: Get your DMM prepaid card code
- Open our DMM prepaid point card collection and choose a denomination.
- Where both are offered, pick your DMM point card code type: the 17-digit prepaid card code if you might need game chips, or the 16-digit point code for DMM points.
- Check out with PayPal or credit card.
- Watch your inbox. Codes are delivered by email. Verified (returning) customers get instant delivery; first-time customers go through a one-time account verification before the code is sent.
Step 3: Redeem a 17-digit DMM prepaid card code
- Sign in to your DMM account.
- Decide where the balance should go: DMM points or game chips. DMM has a separate charge page for each and asks you to take care not to charge the wrong balance.
- Open the matching page: the point charge page (ポイントチャージページ) for DMM points, or the game chip charge page (ゲームチップチャージページ) for game chips. Both are linked from DMM's prepaid card help page.
- Enter your prepaid card number. For a 17-digit number, type only the letters and numbers, without spaces.
- Check your balance. DMM says prepaid card charges are reflected immediately, and an email is sent to your registered address once the charge goes through.
Step 4: Redeem a 16-digit DMM point code
- Sign in to your DMM account.
- Open DMM's point code page. DMM's point code help page links to it as ポイントコードの使用はこちら (Use a point code here).
- Enter the 16-digit code in half-width characters, taking care with look-alikes such as 1 and 0.
- DMM charges the points to your DMM point balance, ready to use.
Step 5: Check when your points expire
These steps follow DMM's help page on checking your DMM point expiry dates.
- Sign in and select the account icon at the top right of the DMM site.
- Open DMMアカウント情報 (DMM account information).
- In the DMM points section, open ポイント履歴 (Point history). This takes you to the 管理 (management) page of DMM PointClub.
- Scroll down and select the 有効期限 (Expiry date) tab.
For game chips, DMM has a separate game chip expiry list that you can open after signing in.
FAQ
Can I use DMM points from outside Japan?
Only for a few services. DMM's list of services for customers outside Japan names DMM Online Salon, English lessons and the teamLab Planets TOKYO ticket store, and only the first two accept DMM points. Services such as DMM TV cannot be used from abroad. DMM's limits depend on where you access its sites from, so they matter most if you live outside Japan. Some services may also ask for an ID check.
Should I charge DMM points or game chips?
If your game is on DMM's game chip list, choose game chips, because DMM points cannot buy paid items in those titles. For everything else, choose DMM points. Of the codes we sell, only the 17-digit prepaid card code can be charged as game chips.
My code is not accepted. What should I do?
Check that you are signed in and on the right page (DMM points, game chips or point code). Type the code in half-width characters with no spaces, and check look-alikes such as 1 and 0. A prepaid card also cannot be charged once its one-year charge period has passed. Still stuck? Contact us with your order number.
Can I get a refund on a DMM prepaid card?
DMM does not return, refund or reissue DMM prepaid cards. Before you order, make sure the service you want works where you are. Our refund policy explains how we handle orders.
Now you know what DMM points can do, where they work and how to redeem them.
